Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be enjoyed in casinos all over the globe, or in your house on your computer, using a net connection. The game rules are very simple and consist of the player attempting to achieve the greatest combination of cards possible in order to win money. In this respect it’s much the same as a normal game of poker, minus the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker starts when the enthusiast inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and presses the play button. A hand of five cards will then be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and players should now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, from all to none.
After the player has decided on which cards he would like to retain, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards will be needed they will be given out. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Generally, the lowest succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful players are able to select the most money-making game each instance.
Once the first round has played out, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Additionally, some styles of the game give the bettor an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which case a further hand is played. There are also differences among individual machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing aspects to enhance playability.
